About the book: The only way for Raizel Shulman to save her three sons from being drafted into the Czar’s army is to send them away. Before splitting them up forever, she pens a poem with three short verses which will accompany them, a silent, mysterious token from a place now lost in time.

The book depicts, in seven fictional narratives that travel backwards, the stories and fates of Raizel’s descendants, creating a meditation on what we’ve lost, and what remains.
